Pu-Erh Tea – secondary fermented dark tea, from hand‑picked young shoots and leaves, earthy taste with a distinctive aroma

Vilgain Pu‑erh – secondarily fermented dark tea with an earthy flavor

Vilgain Pu‑erh is a traditional Chinese dark tea made from the large‑leaf variety of the tea plant Camellia sinensis var. assamica from the southwestern province of Yunnan. It is characterized by its bright red color, delicate earthy flavor, and distinctive aroma typical of higher‑grade Yunnan teas.

Modern accelerated fermentation method

Our Pu‑erh is produced using the modern shou processing method (ripe), which employs rapid controlled microbial fermentation, known as wet‑piling (wu‑doi). This accelerates the entire production process, which traditionally took several decades (sheng method). The tea leaves are then dried, pressed, and left to mature.

Unlike commonly available Pu‑erh teas, Vilgain Pu‑erh is made from tiny, golden tips (young shoots) and young, tender leaves, placing it in a higher grade of teas.

A flavor profile full of earthy depth

Pu‑erh is also known as red tea due to the color of the infusion, which boasts mahogany to ruby hues. In China, it is classified as a dark – post‑fermented – tea. Here, it is simply considered a black tea. It has a delicately earthy flavor profile with light notes of nuts or wood.

Pu‑erh is regarded as an excellent aid to digestion. Traditionally, it is recommended to drink it after heavier meals, but it is also suitable for sipping throughout the day.
