Pea protein ranks among the most desirable and highest quality plant proteins. It contains around 80 % protein and is also rich in iron, arginine or BCAA. Pea protein is made from dried yellow peas, not green peas, which causes its beige colour. Although it contains all the essential amino acids, due to its low levels of the limiting amino acids methionine and cysteine, its usefulness is limited.
Because of its deficiencies, it is often combined with other protein sources - most commonly rice or hemp - in protein preparations. This principle is also used in our Vilgain Plant Based Protein, which has a complete amino acid spectrum (amino acids from individual sources complement each other), which ensures its good usability.
Thanks to the production process, which reduces the fibre content, pea protein does not cause bloating or flatulence. It is suitable for breakfast cereals, smoothies, soups, sauces or as a classic protein drink.
