Psyllium is a soluble fibre obtained by cleaning and subsequently grinding the husks of Indian plantain seeds. Vilgain Psyllium has 98% purity, comes from India, and is also of organic quality.
Psyllium is known for its ability to bind water and swell. In the digestive tract, it binds fluids and forms a gentle gel that increases the volume of the digestive contents and naturally helps them pass smoothly through the intestines.
Fibre is generally lacking in Western diets, so supplementing with psyllium can be a suitable choice. It is especially appreciated by those who want to support the normal function of the digestive tract and intestines. On the other hand, it is definitely not suitable for small children under 3 years old, as they have completely different recommended fibre intakes. Although it is a completely natural product, pregnant women should consult their doctor regarding the use and dosage of psyllium.
For psyllium to function properly, it is important to maintain adequate fluid intake. Sufficient fluid intake ensures that psyllium will swell and form a gel in the body, allowing it to perform its beneficial functions.
