Quality protein bars

Not keeping up or your diet is lacking protein? This is exactly when protein bars are the ideal solution. At first glance, they don't look much different from the classic chocolate or wafer cookies. However, they contain a higher amount of protein, so they will reliably fill you up and give you the energy you need. Plus, they're great for your diet because you won't find as much sugar in them.

Are protein bars healthy?

Yes. However, the rule "everything in moderation" applies to them too. With protein bars or cookies, the ingredients are key. Never underestimate that. Choose bars that are lower in sugar and fat and higher in fiber and protein. Remember, too, that protein bars are not a substitute for a balanced meal of fresh ingredients that will give your body the most. Therefore, include them as a sweet spot or snack on trips and outings.

How to choose the best protein bar?

The quality of the ingredients used

Generally, the longer the ingredients on the bar's packaging, the worse the quality is likely to be, as there will be a lot of food additives in them. So make sure the ingredients are as simple and natural as possible.

Source of the protein contained 💪🏻

That candy bar in your pocket has a super high amount of protein? And do you know where it comes from? The source of the protein is the most important factor when choosing a protein bar. A quality piece has at least 20 g of protein per 100 g bar. Isn't there more? Wake up. Quantity isn't everything... In fact, such protein bars are often made up of poor quality protein, such as soy isolate, which doesn't have the best usability.

So which protein is the right one?

  • Whey protein which you may know as whey protein, contains 70‑95% protein, and is one of the highest quality protein sources ever. It's quickly and well absorbed, helps better muscle recovery, and so is ideal after your workout. Plus, it's a natural source of BCAAs.
  • Casein protein on the other hand, is absorbed more slowly. It contains around 70‑80% protein and provides a more sustained supply of protein to the bloodstream. What does this mean? It offers your muscles protein for a longer period of time.
  • Milk protein is a combination of 80% casein and 20% whey protein. It is easily digestible and has a high biological value. It provides your body with all the essential amino acids in the right proportions that are needed to build muscles and other tissues in the body.
  • Pea protein is one of the highest quality vegetable proteins and is especially appreciated by vegans or those with lactose and cow's milk intolerance. It is rich in fibre content and also the amino acid leucine. This is not produced by the body itself, so it needs to be taken from food as it has a key function in stimulating muscle growth and recovery.
  • combination of pea and rice is ideal, combining a legume and a cereal.

Natural sweetener and no artificial flavours 🌱

A lot of protein bars are "enriched" with artificial flavours to give them a taste. But try to find bars that don't have any of that junk in the ingredients. And when we say junk, we mean it. What makes the bars taste much better is the quality of the ingredients used, the fruit or nuts, which in addition to their great taste also provide the body with important nutrients. The same goes for sweeteners. We sweeten Vilgain products only with natural sweetener from stevia leaves, which is 200‑300 times sweeter than sugar, does not affect blood sugar levels and is generally considered a premium sweetener of natural origin.

Delicious taste and texture

If you've given up on protein bars because of their gooey texture that sticks unpleasantly to your palate or the taste tail of poor quality protein, try it differently this time and reach for the ones from Vilgain. You're guaranteed an authentic taste with no aftertaste and the texture of your choice. You can indulge in juicy, creamy and nice and crunchy versions.

Which bar is perfect for you?

Not sure which protein bar to choose? Let us help you choose the one that suits you best. Vilgain offers you several versions that everyone can enjoy - vegan, chocolate lover, nut or cow's milk protein allergy sufferer, raw and low carb dieters, or someone trying to cut down on sugar.

I want as much protein as possible
  • Vilgain Double Trouble Protein Bar - A double‑layered protein bar with an extra creamy filling and crunchy base gives you 16 g of quality protein right away. Plus, it's sweetened with stevia, so it has 70 % less sugar than its regular competition. And you've got two great flavours to choose from.
  • Vilgain Peanut Butter Protein Bar - A bar that gives you 11 grams of protein, contains no added sugar or other ballast ingredients, and is suitable for vegans, gluten‑free and lactose‑free.
  • Vilgain Plant Protein Mini Cookies - A soft snack with melt‑in‑your‑mouth cream inside that gives you 22 g of protein in one packet. We used pea protein on the mini cookie, which not only has a positive effect on repairing and building cells in the body, but most importantly increases the satiety of the product. All of this is in two flavours covered in high quality dark chocolate.

I want the bar to fill me up as much as possible

  • Vilgain Prebiotic Protein Bar - This fiber‑packed treat will surprise you. Its soft and perfectly smooth texture gives you 18 g of protein, you can choose from 6 extraordinary flavor combinations, and it's completely gluten‑free with an ultra clean formula and 12 g of fiber.
  • There's also a choice of oat bars, which, although not a protein bar, are great for filling you up thanks to the high fibre content of gluten‑free oatmeal from Finland. You can choose a juicy Vilgain Flapjack or an extra‑flaky Vilgain Oat Bar.

I want to give my body energy

  • Vilgain Protein Energy Bar - If you're looking for a bar made with 100% natural ingredients that will give you quick energy thanks to a blend of nuts and fruit, reach for this one. Perfect for trips or school and work. The protein version gives you 10 g of protein per serving and you can enjoy two classic and two plant‑based options.
  • For more energy‑packed bars, visit the category energy bars.

I want a vegan protein bar

  • Vilgain Vegan Protein Bar - A 100% natural formula with high quality plant‑based protein from fava beans is exactly what this bar offers in three varieties. We've also added chicory fiber, which contributes to proper digestive function.
  • Vilgain Plant Protein Candy Bar - A nut‑packed vegan protein bar topped with premium dark chocolate that you'll want to eat all the time. It gives your body 10 g of protein from pea and rice protein, the combination of which ranks among the most absorbable plant‑based versions. And you can enjoy 3 great options.
I want a gluten‑free protein bar
  • If you're celiac or trying to limit gluten in your diet, you don't have to worry at all when choosing Vilgain protein bars. They are all gluten free and you can easily find them in the gluten free snack category.
  • Vilgain Protein Cookie - A fluffy cookie with 20 g of protein and a hefty serving of fiber from corn. We didn't use any flour to make it by handand the combination of quality nuts and great absorbable protein makes it a great treat.

When to eat protein bars?

  • Before a workout, to give your body the energy it needs.
  • After a workout, when your muscles have been on high alert. A protein bar can help with their faster recovery and provide a supply of amino acids for the synthesis of new muscle proteins. Plus, it will replenish the energy you've expended.
  • For snacking at any time of the day. If you're not in a hurry and want to have something on hand that will fill you up without having to reach for unhealthy treats full of refined sugar, it's ideal to choose a protein bar with natural ingredients.
  • An afternoon dessert is also a way to incorporate protein powder into your diet. While it doesn't compare to a homemade brownie, if you want something quick and nutritionally rich, reach for a bar.
  • Breakfast when you're really not in a hurry. We all know it, sometimes it just happens that we put off one alarm clock after another and then don't have time to prepare a balanced breakfast. This is when it's handy to have your favorite Vilgain protein bar in your drawer, complete with maybe some fruit. But don't rely on it every day, and try making ultra simple overnight oats to stock up on during the more time‑consuming periods.
  • When losing weight, protein powder will be your battle buddy. It's a sweet treat that will give you protein without taking a mountain of sugar. Plus, it will help you avoid overeating thanks to its longer and more reliable satiety.
  • When gaining muscle mass, you want to take in as much protein as possible in your diet. And to have a supply of protein even when you have a sweet snack? Win win!
  • Don't forget to pack it on trips or travels, too. Imagine you're traveling on vacation, you run out of steak and pickles, and you don't have any food in your stash. You really don't want to get into that situation, and you certainly don't want to buy overpriced food with zero nutritional value at the gas station. A protein shake to your liking solves that! And you can use it on a hike up a mountain, when you have a great source of energy and protein in your pocket in an ultra light version!

Are protein shakes suitable for pregnant women and children?

Protein bars are suitable for anyone who lacks protein in their diet. For pregnant women, it is important to think about the ingredients and choose natural sweeteners and flavours. However, it is always a good idea to consult with your doctor. Children need to be taught the basics of healthy eating from a young age and a varied and balanced diet is most important. The need for the purest possible ingredients also applies to them. It is necessary to watch how much protein they take in per day. They must not exceed their daily protein allowance.

You don't know what to do? Ask your nutritional therapist

Each of us has our own nutritional needs, so it is always a good idea to consult your nutritional therapist about the recommended amount of protein intake and the choice of protein source , or if you have food allergies, intolerances or other conditions, consult your doctor.
